About Powers Service Co Inc.

Bill Powers Sr. founded Powers Service Co. Inc. in 1952. Like many small businesses, Powers Service was initially run from the family home in Fairview, New Jersey. Bill’s work with commercial and industrial customers put him on the front line of the growth of central air conditioning. In the 1950’s this “modern convenience” was used mainly in factory settings. Residential needs would soon be added to the list of expert work Powers Service supplied. For almost sixty years Powers Service has grown along with its customers and their ever changing Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning needs. Today Powers Service Co Inc. is located at 59 Village Park Road in Cedar Grove New Jersey. Everyday Bill’s sons continue the work and commitment to service that their father believed was the only way to run a business.

Today Powers Service Co Inc is in the capable hands of Bill Sr.’s four sons.

Bill Jr. - President and Head of the Service Department
Bill joined his father in 1969 after serving four years on active duty in the United States Navy. He has been a NJ licensed electrician since1973. (license # 4915) In addition Bill has continued to keep himself on the forefront of education and certification in the HVAC industry.

Factory trained by Carrier, Westinghouse, Trane, York, Liebert and Johnson.

Joseph (Jess) - Vice President and Head of the Installation Department
Jess followed his brother into what was now a true “Family Business” in 1975. He is a New Jersey Licensed Master Plumber (license # 7218). Jess took what he learned at Newark College of Engineering and put it in to practice at Powers Service. Like his brother Bill, Jess has continued to push himself in the area of certification.

Tom - Treasurer and Head of the Sales, Engineering and Administration Departments
Tom joined Powers Service after graduating from Rutgers College of Engineering with a BS in 1979. The following year he became a New Jersey Engineer in Training. In 1985 Tom became a New Jersey Licensed Professional Engineer (license # 30369). In the Powers tradition of more knowledge means better service Tom has pursued:

Kevin - Secretary and Head of the Sheet Metal Department
Kevin trained in Gunsmithing at the Colorado School of Trades in 1978 -1979. Two years later he joined Powers Service. After his training in fabrication and installation of sheet metal duct systems, Kevin was the perfect person to run the sheet metal department for the company. Like Bill, Jess and Tom; Kevin holds a Universal Certification from the Air Conditioning Contractors Association (ACCA).

These four highly trained brothers have been joined at Powers Service Co. Inc. by a third generation of Powers:

William III (Bill Jr.’s son) is a service technician and has been with the company since 1994.
Jess’s daughter, Ashley, started working in 2004 and is our office manager.
